"I have to say that I haven't been with State Farm for more than a couple weeks and I was very happy, at first, to have been contacted by them after I solicited different companies to reach out and work up some quotes.

The first issue I had with my vehicle after having a policy is something that will cost less than my deductible to fix so obviously I won't be putting in a claim for that. However, I also have home insurance through State Farm. On the evening of June 17th, during some tornado warned storms, we had extremely heavy rain. I had just made a repair to my roof. Actually two repairs to my roof and it was no longer leaking. I'd spent nearly $1,000 before I became a State Farm customer. Those issues were corrected.

With the new storm, water started dripping in my home from the ceiling in three different places. These were new leaked. New damage. I was told not to put a claim in because it would be denied and that I needed to go back to my prior insurance carrier and claim it through them since I had been working on old damage. That just doesn't make sense to me. We all work on our homes and cars as they need it. That's the same as telling me unless I have a brand new home after getting a policy with State Farm, there's no sense in claiming anything new. Not if the damage was similar to any past damage that you had been working on anyway.
So it looks like, Now I will be looking for another carrier.

I absolutely understand the rock on the windshield. That's minor. But now I'm talking roof damage. I have been talking with this insurance agent for probably 2 months, trying to set aside time to make the switch. I know I mentioned to him several times all the things I was working on on my house. I told him that's why I didn't have time for anything. Do you think he mentioned anything about making any claims on those same items later being a problem? Nope.

They started a new policy for my home without any questions about anything I had been working on, And I thought that was because he and I had so many conversations back and forth through phone and email. All I can assume is since I was forthcoming & honest and Even texted him with pictures after it happened, reminding him that this would actually be a third repair but that this one was worse than either of the other ones, he preemptively advised me that it wouldn't be covered. Very sad.

I should have stayed with USAA! Even if it was a bit more expensive, they treated me right. It's a company that was started by veterans and still ran by veterans today! 100% customer service staffed with veterans and for veterans and their families. I had been with them for a while, And I had only made one claim with them, ever. It wasn't questioned. When I was getting bids to turn into the insurance company and when the adjuster came out from USAA, All of them told me that USAA is one of the easiest companies out there to deal with, as far as claims. I guess you get what you pay for!"
